China voiced strong opposition on Sunday to the latest US-sanctioned measures against Chinese firms accused of supporting Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. The sanctions, announced by the US on Friday, targeted hundreds of companies across various continents, alleging their involvement in facilitating Russia's warfare capabilities and circumventing sanctions.
The Ministry of Commerce in China criticized the US action, labeling it as "typical unilateral sanctions." Beijing warned that such moves could disrupt global trade and supply chains' stability. The ministry urged the US to cease these actions immediately and announced its intention to protect Chinese firms' legitimate rights.
This escalation adds to the numerous US sanctions imposed on Russian entities since February 2022. Despite these sanctions, Russia has continued to sustain its economy through international oil and gas sales. The US State Department particularly noted Chinese companies' supply of machine tools and components to Russia, fueling further tensions between Beijing and Washington.
