The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transfer selected CSIR technologies to Micro and Small Entrepreneurs (MSMEs). The MoU was signed on August 21, 2024, at the CSIR Headquarters in the presence of the Director General of CSIR, the All India Secretary of LUB, and the President of LUB.

Laghu Udyog Bharati, an all-India organization of Micro and Small Industries established in 1994, has a significant presence across 575 districts in 27 states with over 51,000 members. This partnership with CSIR aims to empower MSMEs by providing access to advanced technologies.

The MoU's primary objective is to transfer 100 CSIR technologies to identified MSMEs under LUB within 100 days. It also includes provisions for LUB to provide CSIR with suggestions, ideas, or problems for developing new technologies tailored to the needs of MSMEs. This collaboration is expected to enhance technology advancement, regulatory compliance, market reach, and export promotion, while also addressing import substitution.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Secretary DSIR & Director General of CSIR, alongside other key officials from CSIR, including Dr. R.P. Singh, Dr. Vibha Malhotra Sawhney, Dr. Debashis Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, and Ms. Deepti Sharma Dullu. Representing LUB were Sh. Ghanshyam Ojha, Sh. Om Prakash Gupta, Sh. Diwan Chand, and Ms. Arti Sehgal, along with other members of the organization.

During the MoU signing, 15 technologies from six CSIR labs—CSIR-CSIO, CSIR-IMMT, CSIR-NAL, CSIR-NBRI, CSIR-CSMCRI, and CSIR-CFTRI—were transferred to various companies. These technologies span multiple sectors and include innovations such as a Pesticide Detection Kit, Multi-copter Drones, an Air Quality Monitoring System, Potash-enriched Biochar from Waste Biomass, and Gluten-free biscuits.

For CSIR, this partnership will significantly extend the market reach of its technologies, promoting exports and substituting imports, all while adhering to regulatory norms. For LUB, the adoption of low-cost CSIR technologies will enhance the efficiency of its units and MSMEs at economical costs, raising awareness of CSIR's contributions to society.
