Mahindra South Africa, the subsidiary of the Indian automotive giant, has celebrated a significant milestone by producing 20,000 Pik Up vehicles at its Durban assembly facility. This achievement comes six years after the facility was established in May 2018.
According to Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, the current assembly plant is among the largest and most complex single-brand facilities in Africa, consistently maintaining a steady production flow. Mahindra is also in the process of building a new assembly plant, scheduled for completion by June 2025, which is expected to bolster the company's next phase of growth in the region.
Gupta emphasized the plant's role in meeting local demands, especially for special edition Pik Up models like the Karoo Dusk, Dawn, Storm, and Dew. With 90 staff currently employed, the facility epitomizes the strong trade and investment ties between India and South Africa, as noted by Indian High Commissioner to South Africa Prabhat Kumar. He highlighted Mahindra's expanding popularity and investment in the local market.
