The government has allowed the export of 200,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Malaysia, utilizing the services of the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).
Since July 2023, exporting non-basmati white rice has been banned to ensure sufficient domestic supply. However, the government makes exceptions and grants permissions for exports to countries that have requested aid to meet their food security requirements.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) confirmed this allowance in a recent notification. India has previously extended such exports to nations including Nepal, Cameroon, Cote D'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Seychelles.
NCEL is a multi-state cooperative society promoted by leading cooperative entities in the country, such as the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) known as AMUL, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO), and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
