New Delhi [India], August 21: Launched in 1991, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has played a pivotal role in catalyzing the nation's IT transformation. Initially addressing the lack of essential computing infrastructure and regulatory support, STPI provided key services to budding IT firms under the Department of Electronics, Government of India.

Early on, STPI focused on infrastructure and statutory services, setting up centres that offered office spaces and mainframes, creating hubs for IT development. By establishing high-speed data communication links through satellite and fiber optic networks, STPI enabled seamless global connectivity for Indian tech firms, catalyzing software outsourcing and offshoring.

The late 1990s and early 2000s saw a boom in India's IT industry, with STPI centres in cities like Bangalore and Chennai becoming epicentres of growth. With 65 centres across India, including 57 in Tier II and III cities, STPI democratized access to resources. Today, the IT-ITES industry boasts $254 billion in revenue and employs 5.43 million youth.

As a catalyst for innovation, STPI has established 24 Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) dedicated to emerging technologies, fostering startups with infrastructure, mentorship, and funding. The Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) extends support to high-potential tech startups in Tier-2 and 3 cities, spawning over 1000 startups and 1714 innovations.

Looking to the future, STPI aims to further expand its network of CoEs, focusing on emerging technologies and promoting inclusive growth across India. Committed to mentoring, funding, and providing market access to startups, STPI continues to drive tech innovation and create employment opportunities, solidifying India's status as a global IT leader.

The journey of STPI over the past three decades underscores its critical role in transforming India into an IT superpower. Director General Arvind Kumar affirms STPI's unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem and shaping the nation's technological future.
