Tragedy at Sea: Tech Mogul Mike Lynch Missing After Yacht Capsizes
Divers are searching for six missing people, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, after a storm sank the luxury yacht Bayesian off Sicily's coast. The incident left one dead and six unaccounted for. The yacht had 22 people on board, with Lynch's wife among the survivors.
Divers scoured the wreck of a luxury yacht off Sicily's coast on Tuesday, searching for six missing people, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter, following a violent storm that sank the vessel on Monday.
The British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-meter-long superyacht, was carrying 22 people and anchored off the port of Porticello when it was hit by the fierce pre-dawn storm. Fifteen people escaped before it capsized, and the body of one person who died was swiftly recovered. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, among others, remain missing.
Salvatore Cocina, head of civil protection in Sicily, expressed concern that the bodies might be trapped inside the vessel, which lies 49 meters deep. Fire department divers face challenges due to confined spaces and obstacles within the yacht. Meteorologists noted that extreme weather conditions following weeks of intense heat may have amplified the storm's severity.
