By Shivanii Sharma - Manoj Kumar Goel, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), announced that the organization has generated over 10 lakh jobs across India in the last financial year.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Goel revealed that KVIC's employment initiatives, supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ministry, have provided jobs for over 10 lakh 17 thousand people. Highlighting the department's focus on artisans, Goel stated that 80% of the 5 lakh artisans employed are women, with their wages having increased by 225% over the past decade. These achievements underscore KVIC's commitment to fostering rural employment under the Prime Minister's guidance.

KVIC is dedicated to directly benefiting local artisans through various initiatives, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) which ensures margin money reaches their accounts. Goel explained, "Our local artisans collaborate with us to advance our programs and produce our products. Incentives are provided through DBT, ensuring financial support reaches those most in need."

The commission is also expanding its efforts in village industries with the introduction of new verticals. Under its employment generation program, 80 lakh people are employed across 9.5 lakh units nationwide. On poverty alleviation, Goel pointed to a NITI Aayog report indicating that KVIC has helped over 20 crore people rise above poverty. The commission's efforts include youth engagement in village industries, offering training and innovative machinery in areas like pottery and honey-making.

Aligned with the vision of "Naye Bharat ki Nayi Khadi" (New Khadi of New India), KVIC has developed an e-marketplace to make Khadi products more accessible to the youth. Initiatives with Digital India Corporation and the establishment of new stores, like the one at IIT, support this modernization push. Keeping quality in focus, KVIC has partnered with the Quality Council of India (QCI) and established a Center of Excellence for Khadi with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to incorporate new designs and appeal to the youth.

The Center of Excellence aims to work with experts to enhance Khadi's appeal, operating in multiple locations like Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. KVIC is in alignment with market preferences for the youth, incorporating dynamic changes in designs, color combinations, labeling, and branding as led by our Prime Minister.
