Amara Raja has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio India, an Italian motor vehicle manufacturer, to develop and supply Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells and chargers for electric vehicles. This collaboration, announced in a stock market filing on Saturday, will focus on developing and supplying LFP Li-ion cells and chargers for Piaggio's electric 3 Wheelers and new 2-Wheeler offerings.

In a significant development, Amara Raja hosted a grand groundbreaking ceremony for their Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district. The company inaugurated the first phase of the battery pack plant, boasting a capacity of 1.5 GWh. Designed to meet Indian conditions, the plant will supply Li-ion battery packs to major EV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and cater to stationary energy storage needs.

The CQP is expected to be operational by the first quarter of the next financial year, producing various cell types for customer testing and validation. This project received a boost from a collaboration with Gotion Inobat (GIB) for advanced technology, manufacturing, and customized solutions.

"We expect this initiative to be pivotal in advancing India's energy transition," stated Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Director of ARE&M. He highlighted the company's pioneering role in adopting new technologies and their pride in establishing world-class manufacturing units. The CQP is the first of its kind in India and aims to develop optimal cell chemistry tailored to customer requirements.

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) recently signed an MoU with Ather Energy to focus on creating market-relevant solutions for India's Electric Vehicle (EV) technology landscape. In June, Amara Raja Energy and Mobility acquired a Rs 170 crore stake in Norwegian battery manufacturer InoBat AS, increasing its shareholding to 9.32 per cent.
