The ATR-72 aircraft, operated by Voepass Linhas Areas, was en route from Cascavel in Parana to Guarulhos in Sao Paulo, reported website G1. Sao Paulo's state fire brigade confirmed the crash on social media, adding that seven emergency crews have been dispatched to the accident scene.

Footage shared on social media showed the plane descending rapidly into a wooded area, followed by a significant plume of black smoke.
