Robert "Kelly" Ortberg took over as Boeing's new chief executive on Thursday, vowing to address the multitude of challenges facing the aerospace giant. Ortberg plans to spend his first day on the factory floor near Seattle, which has become central to Boeing's problems.

In a memo to employees, Ortberg expressed enthusiasm for his new role, despite inheriting a company grappling with financial losses and a damaged reputation. "While we clearly have a lot of work to do in restoring trust, I'm confident that working together, we will return the company to be the industry leader we all expect," he wrote.

Boeing has reported significant losses, including a $1.4 billion deficit in the second quarter. The National Transportation Safety Board recently investigated production issues at Boeing's factories, emphasizing the urgency of Ortberg's task. The new CEO aims to prioritize quality and safety measures to rejuvenate the company's standing.
