The Haryana Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to extend the minimum support price (MSP) to 10 additional crops. This decision came a day after Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced at the 'Vijay Shankhnad' rally in Kurukshetra that the state would purchase all crops at MSP.

Effective April 1, 2024, the Cabinet also waived canal water irrigation charges. These measures are geared towards crop diversification and financial relief for farmers, said Saini. Notably, the state will become the first in the country to buy all crops at MSP.

Previously, Haryana was already purchasing 14 crops at MSP. With the new inclusion of crops like ragi, soybean, jowar, and moong, the total rises to 24. Saini urged other states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka, to adopt similar measures.
