The West Bengal government has unveiled an ambitious plan to double its exports by 2030, according to state commerce and industry minister Shashi Panja.

Speaking at the EEPC India award event, Panja highlighted the introduction of the West Bengal Export Promotion Policy last year, accompanied by the establishment of Export Facilitation Centers in each district aimed at boosting the number of exporters.

In a reflection of the policy's initial success, Co-chair of the state's International Trade and Logistics Committee, Sanjay Budhia, noted that West Bengal's exports in the 2023-24 fiscal year amounted to approximately Rs one lakh crore.

'The government has introduced the West Bengal Export Promotion Policy to enhance exports from the state. We have also reconstituted the West Bengal Exports Committee,' Panja said.

With the MSME sector making significant contributions, the state's GDP saw a rise from Rs 4.6 lakh crore in 2010-11 to Rs 17 lakh crore in 2023-24.

Panja emphasized that the establishment of the Export Facilitation Centers in every district would further aid in achieving export growth.
