India's Energy Sector Soars with Major Refinery Expansions

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has praised India's advancing capabilities in becoming self-sufficient in the energy sector. In a social media post on 'X', the minister highlighted the ongoing expansion of refining capacities at the Barauni, Panipat, and Gujarat Refineries.

Puri noted that these substantial projects are progressing at a swift pace. Sharing a video of the projects, he pointed out the regular installation of heavy, complex equipment in the energy sector. The minister commented, 'Pieces are falling in place to power India's journey towards energy self-sufficiency under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.'

The expansion plans include increasing the Barauni refinery capacity from 6 to 9 MMTPA, the Panipat refinery from 15 to 25 MMTPA, and the Gujarat refinery from 13.7 to 18 MMTPA. Indian Oil is channeling significant investments into these projects, such as Rs 14,800 crore for Barauni and Rs 17,825 crore for Gujarat. The Panipat project's completion is expected by December 2025.
