India to Launch 12 New Industrial Smart Cities to Boost Domestic Manufacturing
India is set to launch 12 new industrial smart cities across various states to enhance domestic manufacturing. DPIIT Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh revealed that current plans involve eight cities already in development, with 20 cities to be established in total. The project aims to increase manufacturing's GDP share and create jobs.
In a significant move to bolster domestic manufacturing, India will develop 12 new industrial cities in various states, including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, mimicking models such as Greater Noida and Dholera. DPIIT Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh noted that out of these, two will be established in Andhra Pradesh and one in Bihar.
According to Singh, eight cities are currently at different stages of implementation. Notable progress has been made with trunk infrastructure in cities like Dholera, Auric (Maharashtra), Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh), and Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), where land allotment for industry is underway.
Plans for additional infrastructure in four other cities, including road connectivity, water, and power supply, are also progressing. With the announcement of new smart cities in the Budget, the number of industrial cities will total 20, significantly impacting manufacturing's GDP contribution and job creation. The land for these projects is already available, requiring Union cabinet approval for full implementation.
