Tragedy Strikes Mexico's Famed Jose Cuervo Distillery: Explosion Leaves Six Dead
An explosion and fire at a Jose Cuervo tequila distillery in Mexico have resulted in six fatalities and two injuries. The incident occurred during maintenance work, and a subsequent fire spread to a storage area. The distillery is located in the town of Tequila, an area known for its agave plantations.
Rescue teams on Wednesday recovered another body at a tequila distillery owned by the Jose Cuervo company, bringing the death toll from Tuesday's explosion and fire to six. Two workers remain injured.
Local civil defense officials reported the latest body was discovered in a waste area where large containers had collapsed. The explosion happened while employees were conducting maintenance work.
The town of Tequila, located 600 kilometers northwest of Mexico City, is heavily reliant on tequila production and related tourism. Authorities have stated the situation is now under control, but the fire had spread to storage areas containing cardboard and other materials by Wednesday morning.
