Alertness of the Matsyagandha Express's loco pilot and his assistant prevented a major accident near Udupi Railway station on Wednesday, officials reported.
Noticing a huge tree blocking the tracks, the crew promptly applied emergency brakes, successfully halting the train just in time. Railways' statement confirmed the incident took place at 9.18 AM near the Udupi Railway station. After the train was stopped, a team arrived to clear the obstruction swiftly.
Sources from Konkan Railway indicated that the Matsyagandha Express was en route from Barkur to Udupi when the crew observed the fallen tree. The prompt response helped avert a potential disaster.
Following the incident, an overhead equipment team quickly removed the fallen tree, enabling the train to resume its journey soon after.
In recognition of their timely and efficient action, Konkan Railway CMD Santhosh Kumar Jha awarded the train crew a cash reward of Rs 15,000 each, with the presentation taking place at Surathkal Railway station later in the day.
