A labourer in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district unearthed a 19.22-carat diamond in a mine on Wednesday, which could be worth around Rs 80 lakh at the government auction, according to officials.
Raju Gaud, who discovered the diamond during his routine morning dig, expressed hope that the proceeds would ease his financial burdens and support his children's education.
District Collector Suresh Kumar confirmed that the diamond would be listed for sale in the upcoming auction, adding that the raw gemstone would be auctioned off with the earnings provided to Gaud after deducting government royalties and taxes.
