Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw criticized the Kerala government for its lack of cooperation on crucial railway projects, especially the Angamali-Sabarimala railway line, during a Question Hour session in the Lok Sabha. Sanctioned back in 1997-98, the project faces delays due to land acquisition challenges and public protests.

Vaishnaw emphasized that the project requires state government support to move forward and pointed out ongoing assessments for a new alignment, which might be shorter and more effective. The proposed alternative alignment is under detailed review, and a final decision will be made after discussions with MPs and state officials.

The minister also noted substantial increases in funding for the railways in Kerala since 2014, but reiterated that the pace of progress is contingent upon timely land acquisition. Vaishnaw urged MPs to use their influence to garner state support for advancing the railway initiatives in Kerala.
