Salt Lake City Set to Host 2034 Winter Olympics

Utah governor Spencer Cox conveyed the mixed emotions of his delegation, including nerves, excitement, and energy, on the eve of the International Olympic Committee's anticipated announcement that Salt Lake City will host the 2034 Winter Olympics.

Salt Lake City stands as the sole candidate and is slated for confirmation on Wednesday, while France is expected to secure the 2030 Winter Games. 'We felt it on the plane as we were boarding,' Cox said at a U.S. Embassy event in Paris.

'We felt it as we landed. We felt it here today as people cheer the Olympic movement.' The IOC Executive Board has already endorsed these bids, making the final decision a formality. Previously chosen as preferred bidders, the French bid received accolades for its plan and public-private support. Salt Lake City, initially eyeing the 2030 event, refocused on 2034, building on its successful 2002 hosting to address new challenges and contribute positively to the Olympic movement.
