The Economic Survey underscores the importance of India's tourism sector for job creation and economic stability, especially amid difficulties in services and manufacturing due to AI, protectionism, and supply issues.

In 2023, India's tourism industry experienced a resurgence with over 92 lakh foreign tourist arrivals, marking a 43.5% YoY increase. The hospitality industry responded by adding 14,000 new rooms, the highest annual increase.

To further bolster the sector, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the Incredible India Tourism Facilitator Certificate Programme to train a skilled workforce through online learning. The sector also aims to enhance digital interactions between tourists and certified guides through the E-Marketplace initiative.
