A five-member team of senior railway officials investigating the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express has pointed to improper fastening of the rail track as the cause of the accident. However, not all panel members agreed with this conclusion.
"The fastening of the rail track was ineffective, leading to the derailment," said the report, penned in Hindi. Yet, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the North Eastern Railway Zone, where the site falls, told PTI that conclusions based on the joint probe report are premature.
"The Commissioner of Railway Safety has initiated an investigation and had its first hearing on Friday. This will delve into technical specifications and minute details of the accident. Many critical aspects are not covered in the joint probe, making current conclusions premature," the CPRO added.
