In a significant move towards sustainable development, Ohmium, an American-based company, has officially launched a cutting-edge green hydrogen electrolyzer gigafactory near Doddaballapura, Bangalore. The inauguration, which occurred on Friday, saw Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi flagging off the plant.

Also present was MB Patil, Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, who underscored the government's dedication to clean energy. Patil stressed that the state prioritizes sustainable development, and the gigafactory's Rs 2,000 crore investment reflects this commitment. Initially, the facility will produce 500 megawatts (0.5 gigawatts) of green hydrogen, with plans to expand to 2,000 megawatts (2 gigawatts), creating several job opportunities.

The plant utilizes renewable energy sources to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, producing green hydrogen. This zero-emission fuel can be used across various industries, aiding India's transition to clean energy. Patil elaborated on its applications, including fertilizer production, refinery processing, steel production, and hydrogen transportation in fuel-cell vehicles, emphasizing Karnataka's favorable policies and research centers that attract industries.

Karnataka has played a vital role in helping India aim for a 5 trillion-dollar economy by 2030, with a focus on electric vehicles, renewable and clean energy driving sectoral growth. Karnataka's favorable investment climate since 2016 was highlighted, attributing this to innovative initiatives. Speaking earlier, Pralhad Joshi noted India's leadership in green hydrogen production, drawing interest from major firms like Tata Group and NTPC.

The event witnessed attendance from Dheeraj Muniraju, MLA of Doddaballapura, Raje Gowda, MLA and Chairman of KREDL, Arny Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium, Ashwin Varma, COO of Ohmium, among other top company officials.
