A Singapore-flagged vessel, the LOBIVIA, was damaged in an attack allegedly by Houthi militants southeast of Yemen on Friday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported.

The MPA reported that the container vessel was struck by unidentified projectiles while transiting the Gulf of Aden. A fire erupted onboard, which the crew promptly extinguished.

No Singaporeans were among the crew, all of whom are safe and accounted for. The ship managed to resume its journey and successfully reached Somalia's Berbera Port. Damage assessments and repairs are pending, according to MPA.

The MPA is in contact with the vessel manager to offer any necessary assistance. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has also notified its security partners in the region to provide support.

In a televised address, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed responsibility for the attack involving ballistic missiles and drones.

British security firm Ambrey confirmed that LOBIVIA was hit by two missiles approximately 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden and executed evasive maneuvers before turning off its automatic identification system.

Since November, Houthi militants have targeted vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, disrupting global trade. Other recent attacks have had significant impacts, including sinking two vessels and forcing another to turn back due to damage.

Authorities have responded with retaliatory measures, including strikes by Britain and the US.
