Tata Power and NHPC Partner to Solarise Government Buildings by 2025
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has signed an MoU with NHPC Renewable Energy Limited to install rooftop solar projects on government buildings across India, aiming for 100% solarisation by December 2025 under the PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC-REL) for the installation of Rooftop Solar Projects (RTS Projects) on government buildings. This initiative is part of the PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme aiming for complete solarisation of all government-owned buildings by December 2025, the company announced in a filing on Thursday.
The signing ceremony took place at the NHPC Office complex in Faridabad, with key signatories including Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of TPREL, and S.P. Rathour, CEO of NHPC-REL. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated NHPC Limited as the Scheme Implementing Partner (SIP) for these projects, which will be executed by its subsidiary, NHPC-REL. TPREL, a leader in solar energy, brings significant expertise to ensure efficient project execution.
This MoU is expected to transform India's energy landscape by utilising government buildings' rooftop spaces for solar projects, contributing to a cleaner and greener future. R.P. Goyal, CMD of NHPC, emphasized the importance of this partnership in meeting solarisation targets and reducing the carbon footprint of government buildings. Deepesh Nanda of TPREL highlighted that the collaboration marks a significant step toward India's renewable energy goals, with a target of 100% solarisation by 2025.
