Biocon Ltd Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on Wednesday voiced her concerns over the Karnataka government's decision to enforce job reservations for Kannadigas in private firms, advocating for exemptions for highly skilled recruitment.

Mazumdar-Shaw emphasized that the job reservation policy should not disrupt Karnataka's leading status in the technology sector. She took to the social media platform X, stating, ''As a tech hub we need skilled talent and whilst the aim is to provide jobs for locals we must not affect our leading position in technology by this move.''

She was responding to news that the Karnataka Cabinet has approved the Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in the Industries, Factories and Other Establishments Bill, 2024, mandating 50% reservation in management and 75% in non-management roles for local candidates.
