India's First Undersea Rail Tunnel Project Kicks Off

Work on India's first seven-kilometer undersea rail tunnel, part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, has commenced. The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) announced significant progress, including completion of 194 km viaducts and 322 km piers, and multiple mountain and river bridges.

In a major milestone for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, work has begun on India's first seven-kilometer undersea rail tunnel, which forms part of the 21-kilometer stretch between BKC and Shilphata in Mumbai, according to a recent update from the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL).

Progress is being made on various facets of the project, with NHSRCL reporting the completion of 194 kilometers of viaduct work and 322 kilometers of pier construction. The construction of three steel bridges, spanning 70 meters, 100 meters, and 130 meters in Surat, Anand, and Vadodara, respectively, has also been finished.

Bridge construction for nine rivers, including Par, Purna, and Sabarmati, is complete, and work is ongoing for others, including the Narmada and Tapti. The first 350-meter mountain tunnel near Zaroli Village in Valsad, Gujarat, is also finished. Moreover, the foundation work for eight bullet train stations in Gujarat has been completed, with structural and earthworks progressing at other sites.
