Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday celebrated the arrival of the first mothership 'San Fernando' at the Vizhinjam International Seaport, marking a proud moment for India. With this milestone, India has officially entered the global maritime map through the Vizhinjam port.
'India enters the global map through Vizhinjam, one of the world's largest ports,' stated CM Vijayan. He emphasized that the mammoth ships can now berth at Vizhinjam, operational in a trial run and expected to be fully functional soon. 'This is becoming the mother port and it is a proud moment,' he said, also highlighting the accelerated project completion timeline, now set for 2028 instead of 2045.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Adani Ports MD Karan Adani also attended the ceremony. The 'San Fernando,' owned by SFL Corporation Ltd and chartered by Maersk, arrived at the outer port area on Thursday morning and was welcomed with a water salute.
