U.S. Senate Commerce Committee chair Maria Cantwell announced Thursday her intent to have Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun testify before her committee. This step is part of her efforts to bolster Federal Aviation Administration oversight of aircraft manufacturers.
Calhoun previously testified before another Senate committee on June 19. However, Cantwell emphasized Thursday that she anticipates the outgoing CEO will also attend a future hearing before her committee.
Additionally, Cantwell plans to release proposed FAA legislation shortly, which will mandate the agency to adopt safety management systems to enhance oversight and safety in aircraft manufacturing.
