Orange Energies has announced a significant expansion initiative with the opening of its digital platform, Orange Smart Energies, to all energy producers across Africa. This move aims to enhance energy inclusion by facilitating easy, prepaid access to energy through solar kits and smart meters. The platform leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technology to mitigate profitability challenges faced by energy producers, particularly by reducing the risk of non-payment.

Developed by Orange and recently enhanced in 2021, Orange Smart Energies is a software platform that is now accessible to energy producers throughout Africa and the Middle East. It guarantees payment via mobile money, ensuring financial security for energy providers. The platform's business model fosters partnerships between Orange and energy producers, enabling seamless digital service delivery and a robust distribution network tailored for African markets. This infrastructure extends energy accessibility to remote rural areas, ensuring the last kilometer connectivity.

Unique in its scope, Orange Smart Energies supports both pay-as-you-go solar equipment and prepaid smart meters. This versatility positions it as a comprehensive solution addressing energy accessibility challenges across diverse market segments.

Since its inception in 2017, Orange Energies has prioritized increasing energy accessibility, particularly in regions where a significant portion of the population lacks access to electricity. Operating in 12 countries including DRC, Madagascar, Cameroon, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire, the company serves over 300,000 households daily. Its expansion efforts continue to broaden regional coverage and customer reach across the continent.

Jérôme Hénique, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, emphasized the company's commitment to leveraging digital technology for improving energy inclusion in Africa. "Opening our Orange Smart Energies platform to all energy producers marks a significant advancement in our mission towards universal energy access in Africa and the Middle East," he stated.

Nat-Sy Missamou, Senior Vice President of Orange Energies for Africa and the Middle East, highlighted the collaborative efforts with energy producers to support their sustainability in African markets. "Our pay-as-you-go service, supported by existing digital and financial inclusion solutions, is tailored to meet the specific needs of African markets," Missamou explained.

This strategic initiative underscores Orange Energies' dedication to enhancing energy accessibility and supporting sustainable economic growth across Africa, ultimately contributing to the region's development goals.
