Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday took charge as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

In a heartfelt post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Gadkari expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reassigning him this pivotal role in Modi 3.0.

He emphasized that under Modi Ji's visionary leadership, India would rapidly acquire world-class, modern infrastructure.

Popularly known as the 'Highway Man of India', Gadkari has overseen the construction of more than 54,858 km of national highways over the past decade.

The 67-year-old leader from Nagpur in Maharashtra is the longest-serving minister in this sector.

His ministry aims to complete the 1,386-km Delhi-Mumbai Express by December this year.

Gadkari, a former BJP president and long-time RSS affiliate, has repeatedly won the Nagpur seat, home to the RSS headquarters.

Inducted into the NDA government as a cabinet minister on Sunday, Gadkari's political journey took off in 2009 when he was appointed BJP president.

Since his debut in the Lok Sabha polls from Nagpur in 2014, Gadkari has managed various portfolios including micro, small and medium enterprises, shipping, water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation, rural development, and panchayati raj.

He also served on the Maharashtra legislative council from the Nagpur Graduates' constituency from 1989 to 2014.
