The inauguration ceremony follows the signing of a framework contract on June 19, 2023, between the Republic of Malawi, represented by the Malawi Export Development Fund, and ARISE IIP for the development of an integrated industrial park around Lilongwe under a public-private partnership. Afreximbank, the leading financial partner of ARISE IIP, has committed to financing the project with USD 300 million.

Vision for Industrialization: The Magwero Industrial Park, located 10 km from the capital, Lilongwe, aims to expedite Malawi's industrialization process by diversifying its economy and leveraging its natural resources. It will host industrial units from various sectors, including local processing of agricultural products, manufacturing industries, and logistics warehouses.

Strategic Location and Infrastructure: Spanning 417 hectares, the industrial park enjoys a strategic location close to Kamuzu International Airport and Malawi’s capital, as well as being in proximity to the Malawian railway network. It will comprise an industrial zone, logistics warehouses, a residential area, an Internal Container Depot Terminal (ICDT), and "Plug and Play" infrastructure, offering ready-to-use hangars for small and medium-sized enterprises.

President Chakwera's Vision: President Chakwera highlighted the significance of the Magwero Industrial Park in fostering economic development through industrialization. He emphasized the state-of-the-art infrastructure aimed at supporting a wide range of functions across multi-industry value chains.

Contributions to Malawi's Economy: Prof. Benedict Okey Oramah highlighted the project’s potential to generate jobs, export revenues, and foreign direct investment flows, significantly boosting the economy of Malawi and improving the quality of life of its citizens.

Partnership for Impactful Development: Mr. Gagan Gupta expressed pride in the partnership with the Government of Malawi, emphasizing the project's impact on catalyzing investments and local job creation, aiming to accelerate industrialization in the country.

The inauguration of the Magwero Industrial Park marks a significant milestone in Malawi's journey towards economic development and industrialization, signaling a bright future for the nation's prosperity and growth.
