MLB fines Dodgers' Machado for Aguilar incident: Reports

Major League Baseball has fined Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Manny Machado an undisclosed amount after his controversial collision with Milwaukee Brewer's first baseman Jesus Aguilar while running through first base during Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

In a tense game, the benches cleared in the 10th inning when Machado grounded out and his feet tangled with Aguilar at first base. The order was restored quickly, but the Brewers remained incensed that Machado would clip a player while running through the bag.

"He's a player that has a history of those types of incidents," Brewers star outfielder Christian Yelich said. "One time is an accident. Repeated over and over and over again, you're just a dirty player. It's a dirty play by a dirty player.

"It was a tough-fought baseball game. It has no place in our game. We've all grounded out. Run through the bag like you've been doing your whole life like everybody else does. If it's an accident, it's an accident; but on the replay to us, it clearly looks like you clearly go out of your way to step on someone. It has no place in our game. It really doesn't."

Milwaukee infielder Travis Shaw also condemned Machado's actions postgame, calling it "a dirty play."

"I was trying to get over him and hit his foot," Machado said when asked about the play. "If that's dirty, that's dirty. I don't know, call it what you want."

For his part, Aguilar said Machado apologized upon reaching first base in the 13th inning. The two, who are good friends off the field, hugged and put it behind them.

"We're good for sure," Aguilar said. "I know him really well. We turned the page, and now we have to come and play the game (Wednesday)."

The incident took place a day after Machado caught attention for a pair of hard slides into second base during Game 3, one of which resulted in an interference call.

Both managers were asked Wednesday about Machado and whether bad blood would spill over into Game 5.

"We all want something to talk about and you guys do, too," Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters. "And that's great. But, man, you know, there's easy terms to put this day in and these next four days in that would centre on accomplishing your dreams, that make that other stuff really pretty meaningless, and able to worry about it at a different time."

Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts wasn't getting caught up in the war of words.

"I don't think we're too concerned about any other teams' comments about our players," Roberts said. "I know speaking for Manny, he's preparing to help us win today. And I feel the same thing about the rest of our players and coaches. So it's really not at the forefront of our mind."
