Cowboys still pursuing Earl Thomas, says report

Earl Thomas remains a trade target of the Dallas Cowboys, who are hoping a little face time with Seattle Seahawks officials this weekend might rekindle talks of a deal.

Previous talks between the two sides never advanced beyond the Cowboys' offer of a second-round pick, but NFL Network reported Sunday the Cowboys are planning another run at the Pro Bowl free safety.

Thomas is in the final year of his existing contract and begrudgingly reported to the team only after a holdout that spanned the offseason and training camp.

Thomas was ready to go when he finally made it to Seahawks' team headquarters in Renton, Wash., starting Week 1 at Denver.

NFL Network pointed out Sunday there is a precedent for such a deal to come together. Last season, the Seahawks acquired left tackle Duane Brown after Seattle played the Houston Texans -- the team for which Brown played at the time.

Since the end of last season, defensive player salaries have escalated and the Seahawks, in the middle of a reconstruction of their defense, might choose to invest in quantity.

The precedent that could be more important to the Seahawks is the haul the Oakland Raiders received for 27-year-old linebacker Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears, which included a pair of first-round picks.
