Mamata announces reconstruction of Majerhat bridge in Kolkata; blames PWD

Taking a jibe on PWD officials' negligence on the Majerhat bridge fiasco, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that a portion of the bridge that was collapsed will be demolished only to construct a new bridge. She insisted on the fact that the officials cannot abstain from their responsibilities. Mamata promised strong actions against those found guilty.
Meanwhile, the preliminary reports on the Majerhat bridge collapse are expected to be submitted today.
Addressing the media at the state secretariat Nabanna, Mamata told, "The preliminary report will be submitted on Friday, as the final report that will have all the details will take some more time." She added that the reports will strive to address the technical flaws and issues.
The probe panel headed by Chief Secretary Malay De was formed by the CM after a portion of the four decades old bridge came crashing down on September 4, killing three people while leaving 24 injured.
