David Wright is back on the New York Mets' active roster in preparation for his farewell at Citi Field this weekend.
The Mets activated Wright from the 60-day disabled list in time for the season-ending, six-game homestand Tuesday. New York plays three games with Atlanta and three with Miami.
The team tweeted the news: "The Captain is back! We've reinstated #DavidWright from the 60-day DL. #OurCaptain"
Wright, the Mets' 35-year-old captain, has not played in a major league game since May 27, 2016. He has had multiple surgeries and suffers from spinal stenosis.
The seven-time All-Star is scheduled to start Saturday and play third base against Miami in what is expected to be his final game both with the Mets and in his career. Manager Mickey Callaway said he might give him a couple of chances to pinch-hit before then.
The Mets announced the Citi Field gates will open Saturday at 4:30 p.m. so that people can watch fan-favorite Wright take batting practice.
Wright is the Mets' all-time leader in a number of offensive categories, including at-bats (5,996), hits (1,777), doubles (390), runs (949), RBIs (970) and walks (761). His 242 home runs are second to Darryl Strawberry's 252.
