South Africa offers employment to medical interns, community service doctors

Department of health in South Africa has offered placements to over 1500 medical interns and 1300 community service doctors who studied at South African universities.

Department of health in South Africa has offered placements to over 1500 medical interns and 1300 community service doctors who studied at South African universities and were eligible for placements.

All interns who and community service doctors who became eligible between the 1st January and April 2018 have been offered a placement and their employment contracts are being finalised by provincial departments.

The commencement date to start working for people that have been offered placements is 1 June 2018 but the department assured that medical students at South African universities that are not eligible by May 2018 for any reason will be offered placements again during the mid-year cycle and their employment will commence from 1 June 2018.

A policy is yet to be finalised on South African citizens who studied medicine abroad and are qualified in medical courses not prescribed by Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
