The project to install 5,000 solar street light to alleviate the problem of electricity in some rural and urban areas in Gabon, is gradually taking shape. 70 solar street lights have already been installed on the section under repair in the 5th and 4th district of Libreville. The rural axis leading to the north of Libreville has also benefitted from the project with 30 units of solar lights.

President Ali Bongo Ondimba announced to the nation that the project is part of the priority measures on December 31, 2017. The project was launched in its first phase in March with the installation of a series of 50 street light to Avorbam, Libreville, Makokou, and Bitam.

The project to install 5,000 solar street lights aims to provide public lighting in rural areas and some cities with the shortcoming of street light, said the officials.

With the prospect of implementing a real energy transition through the production of electricity by renewable energies will increase to 80 percent in 2020 as it is envisaged by the strategic Plan Gabon emergent (PSGE).
