Azali Assoumani, President of Comoros, praised the UAE’s international humanitarian and development efforts and its leadership’s ongoing directives to assist his country and people.

He made this statement during his reception for a delegation from the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, headed by Hamad Salem Al Ameri, Director-General of the Foundation, which is visiting Comoros to inspect the Al Maarouf Central Hospital in the capital, Moroni.

The foundation helped to build the hospital in 2003, under the directives of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

President Azali reviewed the outcomes of the delegation’s visit, which included several humanitarian tasks, most notably its assessment of the humanitarian conditions in Moroni, and an inspection tour of various facilities, including the Al Maarouf Central Hospital, which has four buildings divided into clinics that specialise in paediatric, gynaecology and dermatology services. The hospital serves some 15,000 Comorians on a monthly basis.

He also thanked the UAE’s leadership and people for their care and support through the work of Emirati charity and humanitarian institutions, while valuing the global humanitarian efforts of the foundation.

Al Ameri affirmed that the foundation is continuing its local and international humanitarian efforts, in cooperation with other humanitarian institutions, to strengthen the role of the UAE, which has taken the lead in international humanitarian work.

He added that the visit aims to assess the humanitarian needs of developing countries and their peoples, as well as directly supervise the foundation’s projects in Comoros and discuss their development and sustainability, as part of its initiatives for the Year of Zayed.

He also noted that the foundation is in the process of appointing the boards of trustees of several of its external projects, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the UAE’s embassies, to achieve sustainability and monitor and implement its current and future projects.

The delegation also met with Mohamed El Amine, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Comoros, and several local officials, to discuss their humanitarian cooperation, with the aim of benefitting the entire community of Comoros.

During the meeting, El Amine learnt about the foundation’s humanitarian and charity activities in many parts of the world, while praising the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support his country. He also thanked the UAE’s government and people.
