Happy 202nd birthday to Charlotte Brontë: The author of Jane Eyre

Best known for her novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre became a part of the syllabus of many universities. Her first novel “The Professor” was published posthumously and was told in first person narrative by an English tutor in Brussels.

Charlotte Brontë, an English novelist and poet were born on April 21, 1816, in Market Street Thornton, west of Bradford in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

The eldest of three Brontë sisters, her novels became a classic piece of literature by a female in no team.

At the time she wrote, women did not have the liberty and benefits of being a writer. She wrote her novels under the pen name of “Currer Bell”.

"Jane Eyre” is about a plain, orphan girl named Jane who lost her parents way too soon. Adopted by her uncle, Jane never got the love she deserved. Hatred of her aunt turned out to be lucky for her and she was sent away from that home to study. The novel is about a girl who teaches herself and her struggle in her life.

The novel has had many critical viewpoints from a feminist perspective and still remains as one of the most read novels. She also wrote the novels Shirley and Villette. Her novels had the reflection of submissive women as per patriarchial norms of the Victorian society. Through her novels, she portrayed the heroines' subversion of patriarchal authority and their search to express their sexuality through a feminine voice. 

 Through her work, she brought the inner force of a female in front of the world. A few of her famous lines are:

I am no bird, and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will. The human heart has hidden treasures, In secret kept, in silence sealed; The thoughts, the hopes, the dreams, the pleasures, Whose charms were broken if revealed. Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs.
