Doctoral Scholarship Programme launched by Kenyan President
Under the programme, 60 Kenyan students will be given direct admission in PhD in the fields of agriculture and engineering.40 students will be entering the Master's Degree level for Doctoral Studies.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta,launched doctoral scholarship programme named after him. The scholarship is fully sponsored by the Chinese government.
Named as President Uhuru Kenyatta Doctoral Scholarships Programme, the scholarship will help a minimum of hundred students. The scholarship is being coordinated by the Directorate of the Confucius Institute at Egerton University, Njoro.
The first 18 scholars were given scholarship by the President at the function held at Nairobi’s State House.
Fully funded by the Chinese government, the scholarship is a symbol of love, trust and strength that has existed between the two countries. The bond is symbolic of how two nations, which are very apart can exist in complete harmony.
The Kenyan President appreciated the unity and close link between Kenyan and Chinese institutes which aims at boosting Kenya’s education sector.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed appreciated the effort stating that the programme will help to boost Kenya’ efforts in securing food sector as both the fields are related to agriculture and technology.
The function also had the presence Chinese ambassador in Kenya Dr Liu Xianfa and the director of the Confucius Institute at Egerton Prof Mohamed Abdille.
