The Indian state of Kerala is facing the worst floods in 100 years. While a similar natural calamity struck its land in the year 1924, the recent proves to be the one that has affected almost 90 percent of the state. 13 out of 14 districts are under the raging waters and around 30,000 hectares of agricultural land are ruined affecting 2 lakh farmers.

16 rescue helicopters are on their rounds for relief while more than 100 army and navy operations, coast guards, NDRF are working tirelessly for days in a row now to save as many lives possible.

The Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the people of the nation to help the distressed state with whatever means possible and for that has opened the “Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF)” which is currently accepting donations from all over the world through portals of various nationalized banks. One can easily log into the CMDRF website and pay with their credit/debit cards or online banking facilities. A certificate of appreciation and a receipt of the payment will be received at the end of the transaction.

PayTM India too has included a payment option which reads “Kerala/Kodagu Floods” and the money will directly be deposited in the CMDRF. A PayTM account holder can transfer funds with just some simple steps of the transaction.

Amazon and Flipkart in collaboration with the NGOs, Goonj, Habitat for Humanity India and World Vision India have set up their option for sending flood relief items such as toiletries, clothes, utensils, food supplies etc., where a donor can pick and pay for any number of items they want and send them to any one of the registered addresses.

Various international and national NGOs have stepped forward to help the people of Kerala through their respective initiatives. Rise against Hunger India (RAHI) and Save the Children India are working for food supplies and children safe in the scene of the disaster.

A nation-wide awareness of the flood situation with the help of the social media has led thousands of people contributing in some way or the other, every day, towards the relief.
